Created as part of my 2024 Senior Project for University, Blacksmith's Quest is my first video game. Approximate time to complete is ~10 minutes.

---Summary---

A young blacksmith has conspired a plan to defeat the warlock by obtaining three magic relics, which can be used to form a weapon capable of beating the villain! Hope you can bear with me, I often get verbose :p
Feel free to not take all this like a task list and only note a handful of these.

Didn't figure out quick that I need to use E
Repressing E restarts the dialogue, unintuitively
And I REALLY did not expect the mouse control to swing the hammer

The player's hitbox including the head felt unfun because of the perspective

The boss dissolving effect is really cool!

The pixel art cutscenes were neat! In my eyes, this was THE star of the game. Those cutscenes had a lot of effort in 'em, they looked hype

Jumping towards the mine before beating the boss made me laugh. Accidentally died there :p

I accidentally quit the 3rd, maze castle. Cowabummer.
The key in the castle appeared in another room.
And sometimes the 3rd boss couldn't be hit

Overworld walking is a bit too slow, especially when coming back home.

Unique music, me likey, mostly the outdoors theme The amount of unique ideas in the music tracks was nice.

Some BFXR/JSFXR SFX are super recommended, those are hype.

The bosses were a bit too easy, despite how difficult it was to understand them.
Killing the bullets gives HP too easily, making all fights mega easy

The warlock was a bit underwhelming, I'd add a phase or 2 more - But I loved the presentation! The sprites in the fight look dope.

Hey no need to hold back, I appreciate any feedback positive or negative; its all used to improve after all!

As for your points:

1. Regarding 'E' to interact, perhaps I should have added a more proper tutorial for the game to help clear up control issues. The E to restart dialogue was a bug that I had not realized was there. So for mouse control, that was a bit of a shock to me. I had thought it second nature, but thats probably due to me playing games like minecraft often, which uses the mouse as the attack button. What controls do you think would be a better fit then?

2. It took me a moment to understand what you meant by the hitbox including the head, but yeah that does make sense. I'll try to consider the perspective a bit more next time.

3. Thanks! Am really proud of that effect!

4. Thanks again! I was really nervous about the pixel art cause I'm not confident about those skills, but glad you enjoyed the cutscenes!

5. lol

6. Ah the castle. So the key was intentional, it spawns there after you kill all the red enemies leading up to it; but I really needed to put a visual or something to show it spawned. As for the boss, I should probably work on hitboxes more.

7. Am currently replaying my game while I type this and yeah, a run button or something would have been a good idea.

8. Thanks! It was my first time messing with any sort of music/sounds.

9. I... have no idea what BFXR/JSFXR SFX is. Can you explain that please?

10. Well, given this was made initially as a project for University, I had toned the difficulty down by... a lot. In the future I will definitely try to up the challenge.

11. Yeah tbh the Warlock was a bit rushed due to time constraints. What I got in the end was decent imo, but I'd love to make a second phase or so if I ever needed to redo the boss for another project or something. Maybe a sequel or remake a few years from now.

Thank you for the advice!

By all means!! :)

I appreciate the verbose counter attack :p

About JSFXR, it's an online bleep bloop generator for SFX. It's nice, I use it sometimes. Looking it up works, but alternatively the link is: https://sfxr.me/
